| Room for Improvement |
We recently joined SDC after many years of perving the pages of AFF simply because we have met so many more people IRL from SDC.
We love the people that we have met from here and as far as 'getting lucky' from being on here, we have hit a fucking gold mine!
But...
There are a couple of things that really need to be improved on SDC in comparison to AFF. The first thing is the chat room. Though AFF does not have a 'room' per say, but it is a little bit better to chat with people on theirs, The chat on SDC need to be revamped.
Another improvement would be to the video. The camming on here sucks. There is such a lag time to it that you can loose 'the moment' by how disturbing it is.
Audio. Why isn't there any audio with the chat?
I have been quite the chatter on many sites and liked how Yahoo had theirs set up with many chat rooms, you have a list of friends that you can IM with and have video and audio.
Do you agree that there should be some changes?

| If you're looking for an enhanced on experience then I guess there are areas SDC could tweak. If you're looking to hook up with actual human beings who want to fuck you I think SDC works pretty much optimally. |

Interesting thread. I would agree with the general comments floated here, that although SDC is one of the best sites around, continual improvements need to be made.
I think Normalcouple22's comments are interesting in so much that SDC isn't a wanabee's haven for the deluded - the validations seems to give an indication of encounters etc.
A possible improvement worthy of consideration is perhaps giving all users a token number of validation points - and if you fail to pitch up, or you turn out to be say a decade or two older than you really are, points are deducted. Likewise, post a sucessful meeting, points could be credited in a similar way.

Hmm, now that's a hard one - we're on AFF, and like it for the amount of people on there, and like you say the chat and cam is far better on there and much easier to chat to individual people............But, we find most of the people on there (in our area anyway) are just lookers and don't actually want to meet, they seem quite happy to chat and cam.
We find the oposite with SDC - although it's not as easy to chat/cam, we find most people on here are genuine and want to play :) So, I wouldn't really want all the 'lookers' on here, and I don't think the the 2 sites can be compared to each other? (again, AFF may be better where you live)
We just use both sites - and AFF just for fun really, and we can use Yahoo/MSN for chat/cam if we want to |

It sounds as if you have some experience in this.
Im no software guru, nor a platform genius; but I do no that unless people say something about it, nothing will be done. SDC will think that everything is great.
I agree with you about Yahoo. Back in the day you could choose your poison as to what room you'd like to hang out in and you can either chat in the room or IM someone from there. I know that most of the rooms are still there and are hidden, but then again that are a lot of things Yahoo hides.
I think that if SDC could do something that could come close to that, that would be awesome.

While i agree that some improvements are needed I also understand why SDC might be reluctant to mess with it. SDC did improve it somewhat about a year ago, cleaned up some unpleasantness in the thumbnails and made some changes to improve performance; a couple of them are a pain in the neck: only being able to scroll back two screens is one of them; and not allowing cut'n'paste from the chatroom is the other (though I don't think that's a performance issue.)
The downside too is that the chatroom is written in Flash and I suspect the flash code is not particularly good or efficient. Part of the reason it is written the way it is is to minimise the information sitting on individual clients and discourage people from recording sessions. They can't stop it but the present protocol is a bit daunting to interfere with. I also suspect that the initial chatroom code isn't theirs so changing it is potentially problematic.
There is no simple incremental mechanism to from here to there, and I suspect that while revamping the chatroom is on their list other projects with less cost and greater benefit keep drifting up to the top of the list.
The biggest issue with the chatrooms is performance: adding servers isn't going to do a great deal and there are limits to the bandwidth they can afford. A better chatroom application might help but the message traffic when the main 3 national rooms are in full flow is daunting.
Incidentally, there are community chatrooms available a la Yahoo, but they are so well hidden no one uses them. If anything, adding a frontend that amalgamates the subject specific rooms giving the fetishists somewhere else to go for a good chinwag might be the ideal solution. I kinda like having everyone mucking in together. If anything, making the IM facility considerably less flaky would be a bonus.
As to video, I suspect the cost of implementing responsive streaming video is greater than their annual subscription revenue, will require greater internet band width and additional servers.
I agree though that the time has come to do something if only so that SDC can say to the punters, 'we are responsive to your input'. To be fair, they have implemented at least 3 of my previous suggestions so there is hope. |
