Today we conquer the undisputed jewel at the heart of Marseille, Port Vieux. Marseille has been chosen as Europe's Capital of Culture for 2013 and hence it will provide for a fantastic setting. This is where Louis XIV, king of France, moored his large arsenal of galleys and built the forts not just to protect the city but rather keep riots at bay. Wild! From the old port a lot of good stuff is within walking distance. Both forts, famous medieval cathedrals, artsy galleries and great shopping await you. Capture the essence of Marseille by checking out the morning fish market. No surprise that the local dish is bouillabaisse! If the city is not your thing, then by all means head on out to close by Aix-en Provence, Cassis or take a boat ride to Chateau d'If and imagine yourselves the heroes in the famous novel. The Count of Monte Cristo was filmed right there!
Cannes
Rolling out the red carpet! No doubt this is the sister city to Beverly Hills! The chic epicenter of the French Riviera - as Cannes is a world of exclusive boutiques, palm-lined avenues, starlet-studded beaches, and elegant sidewalk cafes. The city is of course most famous for its International Film Festival in May which may still be in full swing during our visit! What a great opportunity for some celebrity spotting!
Nice
With its casual French atmosphere, beautiful flower-lined streets, seaside promenades, lively markets, seaside promenades, and interesting museums (think Chagall and Matisse), Nice is a charming finish for our cruise and a wonderful destination to enjoy the true spirit of the Côte d'Azur. Relax and savor the past erotic week in the royal blue chairs lining the shore.
