LABT: The Latest Dating Trend
Dr. Jess
The number of couples opting to live apart while remaining committed is on the rise.

Dr. Jess was interviewed by Scott Thompson of CHML Radio about the latest dating trend, LABT: Living Apart But Together. According to research, the number of couples opting to live apart while remaining committed is on the rise and they say they're having their cake and eating it, too. But what do you think? We'd love to hear from you!

Here is what a few of our Facebook friends had to say:

Charmaine (age 42) can't imagine living apart from her husband.

"I have been with my partner for close to 19 years, all but 6 months living in the same home. We are raising two children under the age of 6, one with special needs. My favorite part of the day is when we fall into bed, after everything has been done and the kids are gone to bed, holding hands and planning our next big adventure. I can see why some couples work better apart; for me, I need him there everyday to help keep me going."

Jenny (age 33) appreciates nights away.

"We got married 6 months ago and we lived together for 1.5 years prior. I have always had a job that requires me to fly away for 4 days every 3rd week. I can tell you that this time apart is a relationship-saver. My husband (whom I adore) is a talker, and I am more of an introvert - I talk all day as part of my job, and I like some quiet time when I'm not working. I don't often get that with him around... He very much wants to be together any free time we have. My personality only lets me do this for so long before I get annoyed!

I guess technically we're not living apart all the time, but I do find that absence makes the heart grow fonder, and without this regular time apart, I'm not sure we would have lasted this long. He agrees with me."

Do you prefer to be with your partner daily or do you prefer some time apart? Send me a note, and let me know. And remember to have fun and always practice safer sex!
